Add a watermark to a PDF

Marking a document as a draft or as confidential before it goes out. Set your text, pick an angle, and choose how dark it's drawn across each page — faint enough to read through, obvious enough to notice.

Your file stays on this computer. There’s no upload button here, because there’s nowhere to send it. This tool runs inside the page you opened — like a calculator on a web page, it keeps working once it has loaded. How this works, and how to check it →

How to use it

  1. Choose your PDF file.
  2. Type the watermark text and set the angle and opacity.
  3. Optionally name specific pages, then click Add watermark.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole tool is inside this page, so the work happens on your computer. There is no server to send it to. If you'd rather check than take our word for it: use the tool once, on a sample file, with the settings you want. Then turn off your wi-fi and do exactly the same thing again in that tab, without reloading. It still works, because everything it needs is already here.

Can the watermark be removed again?

Yes, by someone with the right software. It's drawn into the page itself, so it can't be deleted with a click in a PDF reader. But page content can be edited, so treat it as a label rather than a lock.

My text is smaller than I asked for. Why?

Because it wouldn't have fitted. If the text at your chosen size would run off the page, it's scaled down to fit and you're told it happened. Shorter text lets you use a bigger size.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes — leave the page field blank for every page, or name them, for example 1,5-9. Useful when only an appendix is confidential.
