Convert CSV to JSON

A system wants JSON and what you have is a spreadsheet export. Each column heading becomes a name, and each row becomes one object. You can also have numbers and true/false read as values rather than text.

Your file stays on this computer. There’s no upload button here, because there’s nowhere to send it. This tool runs inside the page you opened — like a calculator on a web page, it keeps working once it has loaded. How this works, and how to check it →

How to use it

  1. Choose your CSV file.
  2. Decide whether numbers and true/false should be read as values rather than text.
  3. Click Convert and download the .json file.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole tool is inside this page, so the work happens on your computer. There is no server to send it to. If you'd rather check than take our word for it: use the tool once, on a sample file, with the settings you want. Then turn off your wi-fi and do exactly the same thing again in that tab, without reloading. It still works, because everything it needs is already here.

What does reading numbers as values actually change?

With "Read numbers and true/false as values, not text" on, a cell holding only digits comes out as 42 rather than "42". Cells holding true or false come out the same way, as values rather than words. Leave it off for postcodes, phone numbers and zero-padded IDs, where 01234 would become 1234.

Can I get newline-delimited JSON instead of an array?

Yes — choose NDJSON as the result format. That gives one JSON object per line, which is what most data warehouses and bulk import APIs expect.
