Runs in your browserAdd page numbers to a PDF
Contracts, reports and anything that might be printed and handed round need numbered pages, and a merged PDF loses whatever numbering its parts had. Choose a corner and a format — plain numbers or "Page 3 of 12" — and they're written into the document permanently.
Your file stays on this computer. There’s no upload button here, because there’s nowhere to send it. This tool runs inside the page you opened — like a calculator on a web page, it keeps working once it has loaded. How this works, and how to check it →
How to use it
- Choose your PDF file.
- Pick a position and how the number reads, and set the starting number if it shouldn't be 1.
- Click Add numbers and download the result.
Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole tool is inside this page, so the work happens on your computer. There is no server to send it to. If you'd rather check than take our word for it: use the tool once, on a sample file, with the settings you want. Then turn off your wi-fi and do exactly the same thing again in that tab, without reloading. It still works, because everything it needs is already here.
Can I leave the cover page unnumbered?
Yes. Tick "Leave the first page unnumbered" and numbering starts on page two — with page two shown as 1, which is what you normally want for a report with a title page.
My document already starts partway through a series — can I match it?
Set "Start numbering at" to whatever the first page should read. The total in "Page 1 of 12" is adjusted to match, so the last page still shows the right final number.
What if some pages are rotated?
On a sideways page the number can come out along a different edge from the one you picked. You'll get a warning saying how many pages that affects. Straighten them with Rotate a PDF first if it matters.
