Convert Excel to JSON

Someone sends a spreadsheet and the system you're feeding wants JSON. The header row becomes the keys, each row becomes an object, and numbers and true/false can come through as values rather than text. A workbook full of customer records stays on your computer while that happens.

Your file stays on this computer. There’s no upload button here, because there’s nowhere to send it. This tool runs inside the page you opened — like a calculator on a web page, it keeps working once it has loaded. How this works, and how to check it →

How to use it

  1. Choose your .xlsx file.
  2. Pick the first tab or every tab, and choose an array or NDJSON.
  3. Click Convert and download the result.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole tool is inside this page, so the work happens on your computer. There is no server to send it to. If you'd rather check than take our word for it: use the tool once, on a sample file, with the settings you want. Then turn off your wi-fi and do exactly the same thing again in that tab, without reloading. It still works, because everything it needs is already here.

What happens to dates?

They come out as 2026-09-07, or 2026-09-07 14:30:00 where there's a time. That sorts correctly and means the same thing everywhere.

Will it break my reference numbers?

No. 01234 and +61400000000 stay as text, and 1234 becomes a number. A value is only turned into a number when it converts back to exactly the same text. Turn off "Read numbers and true/false as values, not text" if you'd rather everything stayed text.

What about a column with no header?

It's given a positional name like column3 rather than being dropped, so the data survives and you can rename it afterwards.
